Grassroots Community Radio Coalition
Community Events & Links

The Grassroots Community Radio Coalition (GCRC) has been and is far more than an alliance of convenience to promote a slate of candidates for the KPFK Local Station Board.

As our points of unity declare, we are a coalition of multi-ethnic, cross-generational and international human rights activists, committed to the Pacifica mission and to building unity in action for peace and social/economic justice.

GCRC and its Grassroots predecessors have engaged in training activists in radio production and news-gathering skills, engaged in independent outreach to promote KPFK and Pacifica, and conducted a series of workshops, town halls, conferences and educational events over the last several years, promoting the type of community based activism that we believe should be reflected on KPFK's airwaves.

These have included a Housing and Hunger Crisis conference that brought together anti-foreclosure, anti-gentrification, tenants' rights and homeless activists; a Peoples Justice Conference bringing together activists working around youth justice, police brutality, social reintegration of formerly incarcerated people, and political prisoner struggles; and a Climate Justice conference on global warming and indigenous peoples struggles. We also sponsored an educational program on media democracy and imperialist propaganda efforts in corporate, "public" and social media.

Each of these efforts was built with a much broader coalition of other groups committed to the cause of peace and social and economic justice, in a demonstration of practical unity and alliance building. We will be continuing such efforts in the future and invite your participation in them.
